How to generate a digest
Generating a digest creates a new MailPoet newsletter draft from your form's entries. You can generate one for all new entries from the MailPoet menu, or for entries you pick yourself from the form's entry list. Nothing is sent: you review the draft and send it from MailPoet.
Before you begin: You need a source newsletter with repeat markers and a MailPoet Compose feed on your form. See How to set up repeating items in a digest.
Tip: An AI assistant connected over MCP can generate a digest too, and write a short summary for each entry while it's at it. See Connect an AI assistant over MCP.
Generate a digest for all new entries
Use this for a regular newsletter, such as a weekly roundup.
- In your WordPress admin, go to MailPoet and click From Gravity Forms.
- Find your feed in the list and click Generate.
The plugin creates the draft and opens it in the MailPoet editor. It includes every eligible entry: entries that pass the feed's filters and haven't been in an earlier digest. The Last generated column shows when the feed last made a draft.
Generate a digest for entries you pick
Use this when you want to choose the entries by hand.
- Go to Forms, hover your form, and click Entries.
- Tick the entries you want in the newsletter.
- Open the Bulk actions menu and choose your feed under MailPoet.
- Click Apply.
A notice confirms how many entries went into the draft. Click Open the draft in MailPoet to review it.
Review and send the draft
- In the MailPoet editor, check the content and make any changes. Edits stay in this draft and don't affect your source newsletter.
- Click Next, choose your recipients, and send or schedule the newsletter.
Things to watch out for
- Entries are only featured once. After an entry goes into a draft, the next digest skips it. The entry list shows these entries under the Newsletter: featured filter.
- Picking entries by hand skips the feed's filters. Every entry you tick goes into the draft, including entries that were featured before or that the feed's conditional logic would leave out.
- You can make entries eligible again. Permanently delete the draft in MailPoet to release all of its entries. To release a single entry, delete the note on that entry that links to the draft. Moving a draft to the trash doesn't release anything.
- "No entries are eligible for this digest" means every entry is already featured or filtered out. Pick entries by hand from the entry list instead.
